Name: Kristina (Krissy) Dahlstrom
What has your yoga practice given you?
Yoga has given me so much. It's like a piece of me that I didn't know was missing until I started, but now I can't imagine my life without it. It's given me a sense of self, a confidence that I didn't know I had. I've been so much more positive and happy since I started practicing. It's given me a home within myself, and also within an amazing community of yogis.
Why do you practice?
I practice because it helps bring me out of my chaotic stressful life. Sometimes you can become your own worst enemy if you aren't careful, and I've learned that it's so important to take care of yourself, both physically and mentally. My practice is a small part of my day where I am simply devoted to the mat and to myself. I'm challenged both externally and internally, and whether I'm practicing in class or at home, yoga brings me a sense of wholeness.
What's your dream pose?
Oh gosh, I have so many. Handstands, all the handstands. Definitely natarajasana (dancer's pose) too.
What's your favorite pose?
I love wheel. I feel both strong and vulnerable at the same time.
What's your least favorite pose?
I hate shoulder stands/plow. I feel like I'm suffocating.
What do you do when you're off the mat?
I'm kinda obsessed with my animals. I have a giant dog and two not-so-giant cats, and they're the best. I love music, I'm so happy that Atlanta gets so many good concerts. I'm a big book nerd too. It can't get better than good food, good music, and lots of laughter with family and friends.
What brought you to Tough Love Yoga for the first time?
Well my amazing boyfriend had recommended that I try yoga after hitting several exercise ruts and in-general being a stressed out mess. I had several friends that recommended Tough Love, so I decided to try a beginner's class with Elizabeth Ocheltree, and I never looked back.
What's your favorite thing about the studio?
Absolutely the people. Every person I've met through the studio, instructors or students, has been so kind, so welcoming. I just get such a great sense of community every time I walk in the door.
What's your advice for someone coming to yoga for the very first time?
Don't get hung up by the expectations you put on yourself. It's not the pose, but how you get there. Don't be intimidated. Also, be prepared to get real sweaty, haha.
Tell us something unusual about yourself.
I was born without my lateral incisors (the teeth next to your two front teeth). My older brother was born without one, and my twin brother was born with really tiny ones.
What three words would your best friend use to describe you?
Kind, Quirky, Punctual
What's your guilty (or not so guilty) pleasure?
Oreos, especially the fun flavored ones. Cotton Candy Oreos are AMAZING.
If you were having a dinner party and could invite anyone you wanted to, who would your four guests be?
Oooh, Barack Obama, Amy Poehler, Dave Grohl, and Chuck Palahniuk. I think that would be an interesting evening for sure.
